Position Summary
The Assistant/Associate Director of Employee and Labor Relations reports to the Senior Director for Employee and Labor Relations. The person in this position is responsible for the implementation and day-to-day administration of the University's collective bargaining agreements, with a focus on the agreements with United Academics (UA) and the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation (GTFF). The Associate Director will lead bargaining as chief spokesperson on behalf of the university with the GTFF, while the Assistant Director will work closely and at the direction of the Sr. Director to participate in bargaining. The Assistant/Associate Director will serve on a labor and employee relations team and with typical responsibilities including: providing collaborative and consultative advice and counsel on labor contract interpretation, application, and compliance for the university; leading fact finding investigations, responding to information requests, and representing the university at arbitration, mediation, and appeal hearings; conducting analysis and assessments, preparing reports and advisories, and recommending policies and programs that enrich and promote the integrity of the university's labor and employee relations functions; keeping current in the occupational field to include new developments in concepts, practices, and regulations; researching and analyzing the impact of changes in regulations and trends on operations; and designing and delivering comprehensive training on labor and employee relations topics.

This position demands a firm commitment to serving the University with sensitivity and professionalism. The position requires abundant self-confidence and the ability to multi-task many cases, processes, and unplanned happenings at one time. The ability to handle confidential material appropriately and maintain an institutional perspective is also critical.

The Associate Director will work autonomously and exercise a high level of independent decision-making and policy interpretation. The Assistant Director will work in close consultation with the Senior Director to make decisions and interpret policy.

Minimum Requirements
Assistant Director:
Bachelor's degree OR an equivalent combination of skills, experience, or education.
Three years of experience in employee relations, human resources, dispute resolution, or similar function. A Master's degree or Juris Doctorate may be substituted for one year of experience.

Associate Director:
Bachelor's degree OR an equivalent combination of skills, experience, or education.
Six years of experience in employee relations, human resources, dispute resolution, or similar function. A Master's degree or Juris Doctorate may be substituted for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in management, industrial relations, or related field or juris doctorate.
Knowledge of Oregon employment law.
Familiarity with university organizational structure, policy, and political issues in higher education.

Salary range for Assistant Director starts at $60,000 per year; Salary range for Associate Director starts at $75,000 per year.
