Full Time; Contract
Starting Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000/annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Involves developing, implementing and administering compensation policies and programs. Reviews job evaluation requests and proposals, and provides advice on job evaluation, position management, and position salary-setting.

Consults with assigned client groups to provide guidance and interpretation of compensation policies and programs, and evaluate requests for changes and updates. Conducts reviews of job levels, assesses and makes determinations regarding requests for new job titles, and updates job descriptions in conjunction with HR and management. Conducts benchmarking, performs data analysis and formulates recommendations, to ensure competitive, cost-effective, and legally compliant compensation programs and practices. Conducts special market studies, where appropriate, to validate or establish competitive pay strategies for specific jobs. Conducts cost and other statistical analyses as needed for market adjustments, shift and premium pay evaluations and audits, and other pay practices. Prepares a variety of ad hoc reports and analyses at the direction of management. Experience developing and implementing new compensation programs or changes to existing programs.

The Compensation unit provides consulting services to the campus community in reference to writing and revising job descriptions, assisting with departmental organizational changes, advises on how classification decisions impact the department, interpret Classification and Compensation policies and procedures. In addition, the Compensation unit conducts classification reviews, salary equity reviews, participates in market salary surveys, researches and gathers data in preparation for collective bargaining.

This is a 1-year contract position, with the possibility of extension.

The work-site is located off campus at the UCSC Scotts Valley Center at 100 Enterprise Way, Scotts Valley, CA.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience and training

  • Comprehensive knowledge of classification concepts and compensation principals

  • Knowledge to develop and implement compensation programs for client groups and understand how they and other initiatives may impact various areas of human resources

  • Analytical skills to conduct in-depth analysis and develop recommendations

  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills to convey findings and recommendations
    clearly, concisely and persuasively, and produce correspondence, complete forms and reports using accurate grammar, style and punctuation
