Dept Marketing Statement
Physical Planning, Development & Operations manages and oversees all University activities and services related to physical and environmental planning, design and construction, engineering, physical plant maintenance and operations, capital planning and space management, and the associated business services necessary to support these functions.  The University's main campus is spread across more than 2,000 acres and includes over 500 buildings comprising more than 8 million square feet.  The department includes operating budgets of over $48 million, manages a capital project portfolio of approximately $500 million, and employs nearly 300 full time staff to carry forth the duties necessary for the campus' development and operation.

Job Duties
40% 
  • Responsible for the review, submission and tracking of all PPDO HR actions.  This includes but is not limited to student actions, equity increases, stipends, reclassifications and demotions.  
  • Works with client groups on complex re-organizations and staffing objectives to assist in meeting business objectives and defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Advises all levels of managers, supervisors, and employees in developing justifications for recruitments, developing job descriptions, resolving benefits issues, and providing guidance on compensation programs, personnel policies and procedures.
  • Reviews resumes and applications and interviews applicants for a full range of staff positions.  Supports managers and supervisors in scheduling and the coordination of required paperwork for recruitments.
  • Coordinates the review and submission of recruitment advertising, ensuring the department's diversity requirements are met.  
  • Provides support in identifying temporary staffing support needs and submitting requests as needed.
  • Provides onboarding for new employees

  • Provides support to departments in administering policies and programs in the areas of employment, labor relations, wage and salary administration, training, and other areas of HR.
  • Coordinates and implements a variety of annual programs including but not limited to ePerformance, STAR, merit/union increases, and service awards.
  • Advises all levels of managers, supervisors, and employees in identifying appropriate professional development opportunities for client groups.
  • Responsible for monitoring probation reviews and submitting any subsequent equity increases per contract

  • Prioritizes work assignments, conducts HR trends analyses and develops resulting recommendations.
  • Maintains a variety of employment records including equal employment opportunity and affirmative action reporting requirements.  
  • Monitor and track all required compliance trainings.  
  • Provide miscellaneous support to Business Services, including but not limited to the maintenance of a PPDO Toolkit with resources for employees, employee handbooks, and biweekly timesheet processing

  • Counsels employees concerning sensitive and difficult to resolve work-related problems and conducts termination interviews, providing feedback to management.
  • Counsels department managers and supervisors on employee and labor policies, procedures, and appropriate practices, including fair hiring practices.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations; demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills. Has working knowledge of other areas of HR.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, knowledge of functional area and understands how work may affect other areas.
  • Knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures, employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, training and other areas of human resources.
  • Knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems.
  • Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing and in integrating information in the completion of assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.
  • Demonstrated analytical, active listening, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to implement a customer service approach, with a commitment to high ethical standards.
  • Ability to take initiative, organize, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those within PPDO and other individuals within the University as necessary to successfully conduct assigned tasks and work.
