  • Position Summary:
    The UAF Northwest Campus is seeking a Workforce Development Specialist. The Workforce Development Specialist works with NWC staff and faculty, and local and regional governmental representatives to support the identification, development and maintenance of programs and courses to meet the needs of the region and campus partners.

    Duties:
    Data Collection: Identify, research and analyze workforce development employment created by the port of Nome expansion, the Graphite One mine, increased marine traffic, and additional recent projects. Maintain data on participant enrollment and completion.

    Partnership: Contact, promote partnership and collaborate with representatives of regional communities, UA System, state and/or federal agencies to identify training, pathways and resources to address strategic employment needs and plans. Work with UAF departments (School of Mines & Engineering, College of Business, etc.) to identify training, pathways and resources for students to gain relevant skills. Serve as lead, resource, and representative for workforce development.

    Academic Program Development: Rank employment training needs and assess potential to meet regional needs. Develop workforce skills tracks, courses, occupational endorsements, certificates, and campus credentials to address training needs in the Bering Strait region. Provide support for syllabi development, adjunct faculty approval, and logistics of courses. Develop and distribute fliers. Recruit students to local and university programs.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    Demonstrates knowledge of Bering Strait region and its communities
    Demonstrates ability to effectively work with others of various and diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds required - including students, potential students, campus faculty and staff, regional stakeholders, and partner organizations
    Demonstrates networking, leadership, and professional communication skills
    Demonstrates experience and ability to develop and maintain partnerships and programs necessary to address community needs
    Demonstrates strategic planning, organizational and prioritizing skills and ability to work independently and follow through with tasks
    Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain data collection for programs and individual activities

    Preferred Experience & Education:
    Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience working with postsecondary students. Experience working in planning and development of projects and/or initiatives.

    Required Experience & Education:
    Three years of progressively responsible experience related to strategic planning, workforce development, industry partnership, and program development. Alaska driver's license required and clean driving recrod in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.

    Salary Information:

    This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79 (34% geo difference), based on education and experience.
