Job Summary: The Office of Admissions represents Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) in all aspects of recruitment of future students who are considering making SLCC their college of choice! Our office provides information to future students, high school counselors, and guardians/parents. In an effort to help them learn about the academic programs and opportunities that await them here at SLCC. We host events such as early college outreach activities, college awareness events, and open house activities. Admissions Advisors are considered an integral part of the recruitment efforts. In order to build trustworthy relationships with high schools and other community partners, our team is looking for candidates that are passionate, proactive, positive, and committed to cultivating these relationships and recruitment efforts over time. Under general supervision of the Advisor 3, South Region Recruitment Team SLCC Admissions Advisors are primarily responsible for ensuring a steady inflow of prepared students to SLCC. Through the implementation of active and effective recruiting, outreach, and concurrent enrollment academic advising. Admissions Advisors regularly visit high schools to represent SLCC at various events, assist students with enrollment steps to SLCC, work with underrepresented students, and work to maintain positive and meaningful relationships with high school personnel and students. Additionally, Admissions Advisors work with the student ambassador team as mentors and trainers to assist with SLCC campus tours and recruitment. Admissions advisors have dual responsibilities and duties that fall under Admissions/Recruitment and Concurrent Enrollment Advising.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Admissions/ Recruitment Related Responsibilities and Duties:Under general supervision of the Advisor 3, Admissions, facilitate recruitment plans and efforts involving High School students that affect future enrollments. Performs wide-ranging duties and assignments involving professional judgement. Initiate and follow-up on contracts with High School Counselors, College Access Advisors, CTE Coordinators, and CE Coordinators to develop a consistent presence within key and potential feeder schools to increase college readiness and awareness and assist students in transitioning to SLCC. Contact prospects by e-mail, phone, and text to encourage and assist with admissions, registration, and transition.Advisors play a crucial role in recruitment and the enrollment of students to the college. Advisors must maintain active knowledge of SLCC resources, programs, and processes (Salt Lake Technical College and the School of Technical & Professional Specialties, ESL, Workforce Training & Continuing Education, etc.) To provide accurate information to aid students in making decisions and carrying out career goals and educational objectives. Advisors manage multiple schools within territories and maintain real-time rapport and relationships with multiple high school partners- including administrators, counselors, teachers, CTE coordinators, and CE coordinators establishing trust and effective communication to provide holistic student support. Advisors practice professional judgement when evaluating and creating recruitment opportunities for multiple schools and their individual needs. Advisors travel across the Salt Lake Valley to deliver SLCC and concurrent enrollment presentations to large and small groups at local and regional High Schools, at SLCC and within the community to both students and parents. Maintain a professional relationship that helps students feel a continued connection to SLCC. Work with underrepresented populations to increase college preparation and attendance. Participate in all outreach campaigns for future enrollment efforts that include calls, email, and text campaigns. Advisors create marketing content for social media and Salesforce campaigns. Advisors deliver outreach campaign messaging through the CRM daily to engage with potential students and assist new students through their next steps. Coordinate and facilitate campus tours for individual and large groups involving collaboration between other campus partners in the process. Support other campus departments in the enrollment process (i.e., OSS, Placement Testing, ESL, PACE, etc.) Collaborate, mentor, and train student Ambassadors to provide dynamic recruitment efforts.

Concurrent Enrollment Advising Related Responsibilities and Duties:Admissions advisors have a dual role and responsibility as a Concurrent Enrollment advisor and have to be knowledgeable and stay up to date with the State CE policy as well as SLCCs CE policy. Advisors advise, orient, and track high school concurrent enrollment students and prospective concurrent enrollment students on college success, college access, and academic planning. Advisors create an academic plan with concurrent enrollment students to help them achieve their educational goals. Advise prospective and concurrent students with appropriate college degree and program information, including admissions, testing, scholarships, and financial aid processes to facilitate a smooth transition from high school to the College. Advisor will track all contacts with students in a recruitment data base Salesforce. Advisors create marketing content for social media and Salesforce campaigns. Advisors deliver outreach campaign messaging through the CRM daily to engage with current concurrent enrollment students and promote CE related opportunities such as CE tuition waiver, CE Jump Start Orientation events, and important reminders. Advisors train high school counselors, CTE coordinators, and CE coordinators on the advising process and collaborate with school partners to deliver individualized CE needs.

Program Development: Actively collaborate with high school counseling staff to develop effective ways to assist concurrent and prospective students with college access and college planning. Assist with special recruitment and outreach events. Assist with planning and implementing such events; Multicultural Student Conferences, High School Counselor & Community Partner Conference, and Explore SLCC. Advisors support and staff multiple college events outside of Admissions and collaborate with campus partners to provide Admissions services. Complete projects as assigned that will cultivate professional development and support the needs of the recruitment team.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued:

Minimum Qualifications: Must have one of the following:
  • High school diploma /GED plus 8 years related experience.
  • Associates degree (or 60 credit hours completed) plus 4 years of related experience.
  • Bachelors degree (or 120 credit hours completed) plus 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Trade offs considered on a 2:1 ratio. For example: 4 years related experience would equal 2 years or 60 credit hours of education. Additional education of 2 years or 60 credit hours would equal 1 year of related experience.
  • Part time experience may be considered on a prorated basis.


Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Utah Educational system preferred. Higher education experience preferred. Bilingual-Spanish. Possess a valid drivers license or have the ability to travel to different high schools, recruitment events, and other sites in the Salt Lake Valley.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge: Recruitment principles as related to the recruitment of traditional aged high school students focusing on the systems, policies and culture of traditional public high schools and school districts. Collaboration and facilitation skills. College enrollment procedures, financial aid and scholarship application processes. Knowledge of concurrent enrollment policies and procedures outlined by the State of Utah, the Utah System of Higher Education, the Utah Board of Education, and SLCC. The needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged populations; understanding the process and policies for HB 144, DACA, and Undocumented students. College programs and degree options. Educational tests and interpretation. Tracking performance and reporting. Event planning and delivery of appropriate activities involving prospective students. Computer database software such as Banner, Salesforce, Enrollment Rx, Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint and presentation media including laptops and LCD projectors. Skills: Clear and productive written and oral communications and presentation skills. Lead discussions and make presentations to large and small groups. Use independent problem solving to analyze issues and create action plans. Plan and organize small and large recruitment and outreach events both on and off campus. Prepare and maintain accurate records. Work well under pressure and independently; learn quickly and adapt to a flexible schedule this includes both evening and some weekend events. Work ethically with confidential information. Ability to move 20 lbs. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
