About the Position:
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed in educating students to be culturally, globally, socially, historically and environmentally astute, civically responsible alumni able to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Dean for Student Relations. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
The Associate Dean for Student Relations is a key member of the Dean's Staff and plays an important leadership role in the College and in working with the Dean to advance the vision and goals of the College. In addition, the Associate Dean for Student Relations manages student recruitment, assessment, retention, and degree completion. Works respectfully and cooperatively with faculty. Provides guidance in the College efforts in student and program assessment as well as student orientation, retention, advising, and degree completion. Responds to student appeals, petitions, disqualifications, and complaints through personal counseling and mediation. Represent the College on the University Student Petitions Committee. Manages and coordinates all matters related to the college curriculum including providing guidance on the course curriculum, making recommendations to the Dean on curricular matters, and facilitating review and accuracy of proposed curricular changes. In collaboration with department chairs, monitors enrollments across departments as they impact curricula and the health of academic programs. Manages the implementation of high impact practices, such as Study Abroad and Study Away. Works with departments to facilitate Program Performance Review processes/calendar/submission. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must hold a tenured position within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate dedication to the mission of the College and University; A record of excellence in teaching, research and service; A commitment to collegial governance and diversity; A desire to work in support of the full range of programs in the Humanities and Social Sciences; Computer skills and knowledge of software applications appropriate for the position; Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Successful leadership and supervisory experience.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The scope of responsibilities for this position includes the making or participating in the making of decisions that may have a material financial benefit on the incumbent. Therefore, you will be required to file an initial Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interests within thirty (30) days from date of hire and on an annual basis; and complete the CSU sponsored ethics on-line training within thirty (30) days of appointment, and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment.

The person holding this position is considered a limited mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
