Responsibilities

The University of Akron, Admissions Department, is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Director, Multicultural Recruitment. Primary responsibilities include: coordinating and implementing strategic plans to identify, recruit and enroll diverse students within the undergraduate programs offered at The University of Akron; providing subject matter expertise regarding recruitment, admission, and yielding efforts for diverse populations; identifying and fostering relationships with school counselors and community-based organizations to promote college access in underserved and underrepresented communities; managing an assigned recruitment territory, engaging with students, family members, school counselors, and community members; communicating with prospective students via direct mail, phone, text, and e-mail; conducting presentations; coordinating outreach initiatives within an assigned geographic travel territory that could include high school visits, college fairs and other off-campus events; hosting prospective students, families, counselors, and community-based organizations on campus; planning and coordinating recruitment activities and special student programs/receptions to provide information about the University to families, students, school counselors, and community-based organizations; assisting with initiatives related to but not limited to alumni outreach, data assessment, advise student groups, etc.; serving as liaison to the Office of Inclusion and Equity, the Office of Multicultural Development, and academic and student services areas; other responsibilities as assigned; may include supervision.



Required Qualifications

Relevant Bachelor's Degree; valid driver's license.



A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a higher education environment, admissions, counseling, or youth centered environment. Knowledge of university program offerings and admissions process. Knowledge of personal computer and mainframe use in student information systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills and the ability to communicate with diverse audiences.



Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position is $50,500.00 and is commensurate with experience.
