Assistant Director of Recruitment and Retention

The College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking applicants for a full time (100%) Assistant Director of Recruitment and Retention. This position implements recruitment and yield programming for prospective students and recently admitted students and engagement programming for current College of Education students. The Assistant Director will collaborate with campus recruitment, student services staff, faculty, and campus partners. To positively impact continued enrollment, the Assistant Director, also develops student retention activities, including college events, new student programming, and student engagement opportunities.

  • Develop strategic recruitment goals and implement a full-range of recruitment and yield strategies to attract prospective students to support College of Education enrollment targets.

  • Design comprehensive recruitment strategies, including outreach, special events, engagement opportunities for current students, staff and faculty. Develop innovative marketing and communications efforts in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Marketing & Media.

  • Deliver presentations to prospective students and institutional partners (high schools, community colleges) highlighting College of Education academic programs.

  • Supervise student workers and/or lead student volunteers (as appropriate) to execute College recruitment, yield, and retention activities.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with College of Education advisors, Department Chairs, and Program Coordinators on outreach and enrollment efforts, including campus-wide and college events.

  • Engage in local outreach efforts and recruitment opportunities with educational institutions and organizations.

  • Meet with prospective and admitted students to provide insight into life as a college of Education student via in-person, virtual, and phone appointments, in-person and virtual events, email correspondence, and social media (as needed).

  • Develop and implement a budget for recruitment and retention strategies and operations in consultation with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.



  • Participate in College of Education and UIC committees to enhance recruitment and retention efforts or as might be supportive to the Office of Student Services and College of Education.

  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience required. Experience in a higher educational setting preferred.

  • Knowledge of how to use data to drive assessment of recruitment practices and standards. Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills. Ability to work independently.

  • Experience with Customer Management Systems (i.e. Slate) preferred. Experience with data collection preferred.

  • Experience working with social media preferred.
