About the Department:

Perkins School of Theology is one of 13 seminaries of The United Methodist Church and one of five university-related United Methodist theological schools, located in the heart of Dallas, Texas, with a hybrid program in Houston.

About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Associate Director of Recruitment and Admissions is responsible to work in concert with the mission of Perkins School of Theology and the leader of Enrollment Management for the development and execution of the recruitment and admissions processes all the way through enrollment. This role includes the recruitment of prospective students through various forms of engagement with prospects and applicants, and focuses primarily on admission strategies, processes and enrollment.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees the creation and implementation of annual recruitment plans and all recruitment initiatives, including virtual events, virtual travel, and campus events. The role includes travel to conferences, seminary fairs, gatherings, etc. to recruit for the school. Build and strengthen relationships with feeder colleges, programs, denominations, individuals, agencies, churches, etc.

  • Develops relationships with new applicants through matriculation. Communicates with applicants regarding degree programs, curriculum, and course offerings on a daily and weekly basis. Prepares all applications for admission in Slate and participates on the admission review committee. Guides new admit/matrics through the enrollment process and New Student Orientation. Collects final transcripts.

  • Researches and reports on trends for competing seminaries and schools of theology. Analyzes and reports statistical information on recruitment, application statistics, enrollment, trends. etc. Builds and maintains wide-ranging and comprehensive recruitment and admissions data to better inform marketing efforts.

  • Plans and carries out on-campus events and individual visits. Co-hosts frequent virtual recruitment events. Recruits prospective students through travel and presentations at various events. Promotes and runs various campus initiatives for Perkins. Builds relationships with SMU campus ministry leaders for Perkins recruitment.

  • Liaises with departments around SMU (international office, parking and ID office, etc.) to enhance student admission experience. Researches SMU history, programs, departments, initiatives, etc. to enhance on-campus recruitment experience. Consults on departmental projects and initiatives that pertain to recruitment and enrollment working closely with programs to help close gaps in enrollment and consolidate recruitment efforts, performs other duties as assigned.

  • Collaborates on initiatives, plans, and reports. Provides institutional expertise in directional planning for recruitment and admissions. Reviews and helps maintain accreditation standards for OEM. Consults on transfer credit with Academic Dean and Registrar. Reviews recruitment and admissions strategies annually. Provides revisions and updates to admission catalog and website.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours will be required for special events.
  • Occasional travel for recruitment events will be required.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A Master's of Divinity or other theological degree is highly preferred.

A minimum of three years of experience is required. Work experience in recruitment and admissions, higher education, campus ministry, church or social agency, hospitality and/or event planning is preferred. Experience analyzing data is also preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate familiarity with researching trends in theological education is preferred.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft office. Familiarity with Slate, HubSpot or other CRM is preferred.
