Benefits Manager

UIW Mission


Position Summary
The benefits manager is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations of the University of the Incarnate Word's self-funded medical and dental plans, other ancillary insurance benefits, and the 403(b) retirement plans. Position works with consultant to investigate and evaluate new benefit programs, improve existing programs, and supervise and monitor benefits administration. Responds to employee inquires and provides excellent customer service.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions


Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and experience with self-funded health benefit plans.

Demonstrated success in the design and implementation of successful benefits and well-being strategies.

Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs.

Ability to understand, evaluate, and judge RFPs.

Knowledge of Reference Based Pricing Plans (RBP).

In-depth knowledge of the Affordable Care Act, including grandfather provisions of the ACA.

Demonstrated knowledge of contract negotiations and benefits contract language.

Project management and team leadership skills. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Proficient written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate information effectively with all levels of the organization.

Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, COBRA, Section 125, Medicare, and Social Security.

Knowledge of 403(b) and 457 plans.

Expertise in Excel and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Adobe Sign.

Knowledge of HRIS systems.

Strong financial and analytical skills.

Strong time management skills.

Self-starter and strong problem solver.

Ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of protected information.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Bachelors Degree.

Required Work Experience
Five or more years of experience in benefits administration.

Work Hours
Mon through Fri 8am to 5pm with extended hours as needed, especially during peaks such as open enrollment.
