    Department Summary

    The Central Business Service Office (CBSO), a shared service office, provides service within the Office of the Provost portfolio. The specific services are in the areas of Finance, Human Resources, Payroll, Purchasing, Contracting, Travel, and Accounts Payable.

    The mission of the shared services group is to provide consistency through centralized services, offering our expertise in processing a wide variety of financial and human resources transactions and functions including acting as a liaison to the Business Affairs Office, Purchasing and Contracting Services, University Human Resources, and Payroll Administration. We are committed to providing superior customer service and creating partnerships with our customers to ensure their needs are fulfilled to the highest standard.

    The CBSO unit provides shared services for several organizations within the Office of the Provost portfolio including:
  • College of Design
  • School of Journalism & Communication
  • College of Education
  • Division of Graduate Studies
  • Clark Honors College

    The units supported by the CBSO constitute a large business enterprise consisting of more than 2,500 employees and a total budget of more than $100 million in budgeted operations funds. There are additional operations funds such as foundation funds, research funding, designated operations, and other non-general funds, an estimated $15M before foundation funds. The CBSO also works with 13+ employee category types, sponsored funds, gift funds, the foundation, and also some research, outreach, and designated ops org funds. The CBSO will handle these fund transitions in addition to budgeted operations funds.
    Position Summary

    The purpose of this position is to provide critical and confidential human resources support to all units supported by the Central Business Service Office (CBSO). This position will focus specifically on the coordination of staff recruitments and onboarding, researching and analyzing employment practices, personnel records management, explaining policies and procedures, and assisting in the development of HR programs and services. The CBSO Human Resources Specialist will also provide administrative support to the day-to-day operations of the CBSO HR Unit and the units supported by the CBSO.

    The CBSO Human Resources Specialist works as a member of a team while primarily performing tasks independently which requires exercising independent judgment and decision-making on a daily basis. These decisions include an initial assessment of staffing needs, implementation of initiatives to solve problems, determination of the best method and materials necessary to perform a particular task, setting priorities, assessing customer needs, and responding to those needs. The CBSO Human Resources Specialist will work proactively and independently to create efficiencies; implement and communicate new policies and procedures; and improve processes. The Human Resources Specialist is a vital member of the CBSO HR team and must exhibit professionalism and create effective relationships for problem-solving and positive interactions. The individual in the position must be able to interpret, explain, and clarify University processes, rules, and procedures to faculty, staff, students, campus community, and job applicants. This position requires a commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards within the department and university and requires a high degree of confidentiality.

    The Human Resources Specialist reports to the CBSO's Associate Director of Human Resources. This position is Hybrid eligible.
    Minimum Requirements

  • Two years of experience as an administrative specialist or executive support specialist which included administrative support for a project, program, or operation. Administrative support includes those duties beyond clerical/secretarial such as interpretation of rules, policies, and regulations; administrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of projects, processes, and operations;
    OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

    One year of post-secondary education may be substituted for up to one year of experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in the following: MS Office Suite (including OneDrive and Visio) and Qualtrics.
  • Knowledgeable in website development and maintenance.
  • Experience in records management, including personnel file oversight.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in supporting recruitments and onboarding.
  • Experience working in a talent management system.
  • SHRM or PHR Certification.
