JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Compensation & Benefits will manage and administer a comprehensive compensation and benefits program for faculty and staff. Responsible for the identification and integration of rewards to attract and retain talent in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible, providing analytical, policy and support services university-wide. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

30% - Essential - Compensation: Researches, develops, communicates and implements faculty and staff compensation programs. Researches, establishes and utilizes compensation sources and methods to ensure cost-efficient and effective pay plans and compensation programs. Partners with the Communications Group to plan and implement strategic communication plans which includes the program practices, policies and procedures to individual contributers and leaders. Authorizes changes in classifications and salary ranges; computes cost of impact.

30% - Essential - Benefits: Oversees the management of all health and welfare benefits and retirement programs from a strategic and plan design perspective. Collaborates with the benefits manager, HRIS analyst, and other HR staff members in day-to-day administration of the university's benefits programs. Identifies and implements programs in addition to State mandated benefits to attract and retain employees. Oversees the management of the university's relationship with vendors of benefits plans, legal and actuarial consultants, record-keepers, etc. Directs and ensures the quality of benefits proposals.

15% - Essential - Supervision: Supervises the Benefits and Compensation Analyst. Provides guidance and leadership to the benefits and compensation managers. Oversees and manages policy and procedures for the benefits and compensation programs.

15% - Essential - Collaboration: Solicits information from incumbents, supervisors and department heads; conducts on-site audits of classifications of positions. Collaborates with the Budget Office on compensation, that align with paying employees fairly, as well as maintaining cost-savings. Works closely with University leaders to develop bonus structures, which align with the State of SC policies. Assists leaders and individual contributors to address compensation and benefits challenges. Provides a broad range of consultative services to leaders and individual contributors regarding compensation policies, procedures and practices. Assists leaders in designing and/or implementing improvements to compensation processes.

10% - Essential - Other: Oversees the university's participation in salary and benefits surveys conducted by other organizations. Provides direction to individuals and groups within and outside of HR who are engaged in initiating, establishing and maintaining compensation and benefits programs. Participates as a team player in keeping daily HR operations running smoothly, develops cross training opportunities for staff members and departmental succession plans. Serves on or leads task forces, committees and project teams as required. Conducts research on such subjects as resources for market comparison data, best practices in compensation and benefits, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in related field; Work Exp 8+ years.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in related field; Work Exp 5+ years; Undergraduate or graduate course work in human resources management, industrial psychology, statistics, or related field desirable; Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification preferred.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides Budget Input - Provides input into the budgeting process, and oversees fund allocation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in related field; Work Exp 5+ years; Undergraduate or graduate course work in human resources management, industrial psychology, statistics, or related field desirable; Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification preferred.
