POSITION: Human Resources Generalist


REPORTS TO: Office of Legal Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer


STATUS: Full-time, Exempt, Hybrid Work Environment


SUMMARY: Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Brooklyn Heights, New York with a workforce of under 200 employees. The School is searching for a temporary Human Resources Generalist to support the Human Resources Manager and the payroll process in the Department of Finance in a variety of areas, including compensation, recruitment, retention, onboarding, performance management, professional development, benefits, and budgeting. The Law School's size, vibrant employee and student population, and commitment to providing the best legal education will offer a candidate hands-on experience, exposure to different functions of operations, and the opportunity to develop and grow a variety of skills.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


Operations: Assist Human Resources Manager with providing guidance and support to employees; assists with recruitment; onboard employees into the workforce system; conduct exit interviews; manage background checking and I-9 process; respond to reference checks, employment verifications, and unemployment queries; input accurate information into the human resources information systems; and track and report changes in the workforce.


Benefits: Manage plan enrollment, benefits portals, provide benefits advice, and resolve benefits issues.


Payroll: Provide payroll support to the Department of Finance, including monitoring and accurately reporting changes in salaries and benefits, handling direct deposit requests, verifying timesheets, and providing reports; and serve as the liaison between human resources and payroll, with additional supervision provided by the Vice President of Finance.


Other: Any other duties assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • A bachelor's degree

  • One to three years of human resources experience or related experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the practices of human resources and familiarity with payroll processes

  • Ability to exercise judgment, multi-task, prioritize, and execute tasks with attention to detail

  • Proficiency in Excel

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; strong quantitative skills

  • Must have the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality

  • Knowledge of non-profit organizations; knowledge of higher education preferred
