The Human Resources Assistant - Operations is primarily accountable for the effective administration of student employment and payroll, and for the timely and accurate entry and maintenance of casual wage payroll records.

Additional responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall coordination of student employment, to include coordinating with hiring managers the accurate, timely posting of student employment opportunities and the assignment of pay grades/rates. Ensure all postings are current, follow up with supervisors regarding timely communications with students.
- Responsible for accurate and timely communications related to assignment of students, entry and maintenance of student payroll related records, including jobs and deductions. Coordinates with Financial Aid the tracking of work study funding.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely entry and maintenance of casual wage payroll related records, including jobs and deduction records, along with appropriate access to Colgate's network, and coordinate and communicate the timely termination of same records.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely completion and/or collection of required forms and information from students and casual employees, (e.g. I9s, tax forms, applications) and ensure compliance.
- Responsible for ensuring assigned HR filing systems are organized, accurate, up-to-date and accessible.
- Responsible for audits and maintenance of applicable HRIS information and other HR systems that relate to the processing of student employment and casual wage payroll.
- Responsible for running queries from all relevant data systems, ensuring accuracy and relevance of data retrieved, and ensuring this data is accessible in a timely manner.
- Responsible for providing assistance during peak periods and serve as the primary backup for all payroll related functions.
- Responsible for consistently providing excellent customer service, to include fostering positive relationships with individuals and departments supported by the HR function.
- Accountable for effective backup of peers in other areas of HR.

Professional Experience/Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of administrative experience and an Associate's degree or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are attained.
- Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service and strong interpersonal communication skills are required.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated mastery of computer skills including Microsoft Word, and Excel as well as experience using web-based data systems.
- Must be able to demonstrate excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Must be able to demonstrate a flexible, team-oriented approach.
- Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students within a university context.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous exposure to payroll or recruitment administration is preferred.
- Previous experience working with an HRIS.
- Previous experience in running and writing queries.
