Human Resources Consultant (Human Resources Generalist)

The Pennsylvania State University is accepting applications for a Human Resources Consultant position to primarily support the Mont Alto campus in both a consultative and strategic capacity. This position will directly support approximately 380 individuals in full-time and part-time faculty, staff, and technical service appointments.

The individual will coordinate a wide variety of human resources activities for the campus across multiple human resource functions including but not limited to:

  • Employee/labor relations

  • Recruitment

  • Position management

  • Equal opportunity

  • Organizational development

  • Talent management and acquisition

  • Diversity initiatives

  • Performance management

  • Compliance monitoring

    In addition, this position will provide guidance and advice to managers, supervisors, and other employees on HR-related issues, policies and procedures; initiate and/or respond to inquiries such as performance concerns; analyze data and prepare reports; coordinate and approve payroll transactions; and work with other Human Resources staff to implement new or continuing legal requirements or initiatives. Additionally, the candidate will work closely with the finance office at the campus concerning a variety of matters including implementation of policies, position management, payroll transactions, and salary increase planning.

    This position, reporting to the Human Resources Strategic Partner/Regional HR Director, operates with a high level of discretion within established guidelines, and may periodically travel to other campuses in the region. The candidate must possess an outstanding customer service orientation; a commitment to fostering diversity and equal opportunity; excellent written and verbal communication skills; aptitude for finding technology-driven approaches to ongoing work processes; the ability to work independently and cooperatively with various levels of administrators and staff; and excellent judgment and organizational skills. Must be able to embrace and champion change as the university undergoes multiple unit transformations/modernizations.

    Typically requires a Bachelors degree or higher plus 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    While this position will primarily support and maintain its home office at the Mont Alto campus, it may be called upon to support HR activities at York, Harrisburg and Dickinson Law campuses, which may include travel to these campuses.

    Due to the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the incumbent of this position will initially perform their job duties remotely utilizing various forms of virtual technology, with the expectation that after the pandemic, they will work on site.

    This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
