POSITION PURPOSE
The Human Resources Coordinator supports the Whitman community of employees, supervisors and students with a combination of coordination and hands-on functions including conducting data validation of Human Resource Information Systems, coordinating employee of-boarding, retiree medical and tuition remission benefits, student employee work authorization, and training services for members of the campus community. Frequent contact with a broad cross-section of students, staff and faculty permit this position to be a part of fostering a positive work environment and supporting the college's diversity and inclusion goals at a personal level. This position will cross train on other Coordinator functions in the department and duties may change to best meet the needs of the department and skills and abilities of current staff.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Work closely with the Business Office to complete data validation in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) for monthly payroll and ensure appropriate deductions and salaries are entered for each employee in order to provide smooth payroll processing. Maintain an understanding of employee classifications in the HRIS, benefits processes and all positions on campus. Respond to questions about pay and benefits, and assist employees accurately completing their timesheets and paid time off as needed.
2. Assist supervisors and employees in accessing and using HRIS and other technology systems through written communication, one-on-one, and group training.
3. Process credit card transactions, vendor payments and employment verifications.
4. Coordinate tuition remission and retiree medical benefits and payments. Stay abreast of legal issues and market trends related to these payments and programs, respond to inquiries, and resolve problems.
5. Coordinate the student employment process by, planning employment events, speaking to groups, and assisting students with employment paperwork, entering their information into the HRIS system and assigning them required trainings.
6. Provide coordination and support to supervisors and employees on leave through the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave and coordinate Shared Leave Plan.
7. Coordinate the employee offboarding process by providing employees with support and guidance, assisting supervisors through the process, terminating benefits, requesting COBRA notices, updating HRIS, assisting with the return of College property and conducting exit interviews.
8. Work with a Third Party Administrator to process unemployment claims.
9. Coordinate training activities in the department, including making assignments and tracking of required training, and assisting employees and other trainers on campus in accessing resources available from human resources.
10. Create and submit multiple kinds of reports as requested.
11. Assist with annual and special projects as needed.
12. Provide general office support such as filing, scanning, answering phones, and monitoring and purchasing general office supplies, notarizing documentation for the Whitman College community.
13. Regularly cross train with and provide back up to the other Human Resources Coordinator.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Individuals must be able to explain and demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

9. Ability to apply time management skills necessary to meet deadlines.
10. Ability to work under pressure.
11. Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility.
12. Ability to investigate and solve problems.
13. Experience in a higher education setting or demonstrated experience to understand and meet the needs of employees in this setting.

QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in relevant field or the equivalent in experience
Three years of administrative work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One year of Human Resources experience or comparable level of HR coursework or certification.
Bachelor's degree
