Essential Functions

Job Summary

The Strategic Initiatives Sr. Manager leads the development and implementation of Human Resources (HR) strategies within the People Excellence department, aligning them with the goals of the university. This role involves fostering a positive workplace by driving strategies to further enhance employee engagement and productivity. Responsibilities also include evaluating HR processes and collaborating with leadership to optimize human capital strategies.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Design and execute initiatives to enhance employee satisfaction.
  2. Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans to attract and retain top talent.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align HR strategies with the university's goals.
  4. Collaborate with HR and leadership to gather relevant data on employee and market trends.
  5. Stay abreast of industry trends, legal requirements, and best practices related to compensation and other areas of HR.
  6. Support and lead projects such as a comprehensive analysis of current compensation structures to identify areas for improvement and alignment with university's goals.
  7. Ability to conduct thorough analysis, collaborate with stakeholders, HR and leadership, and utilize market research to assist in designing and implementing competitive compensation programs.
  8. Demonstrates expertise in HR principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate findings and make recommendations effectively.
  9. Assist with the design and implementation of programs that attract and retain top talent while aligning with budgetary constraints.
  10. Prepare detailed reports and presentations outlining findings, recommendations, and potential policy changes.
  11. Provides guidance on complex matters and serves as a subject-matter expert in area of focus.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.







Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a variety of human resources functions.
  • One or more (1+) years of project or program management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship building with all levels of leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to respond to challenging conversations with managers and employees confidently, effectively and professionally.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize risks and issues and evaluate competing needs.
  • Ability to identify process improvements and look for more efficient solutions to problems.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Relevant experience supporting enterprise and HR systems that facilitate efficiency and effectiveness through efficient business processes, reporting, and customer service.
  • Proficient in using HRIS, and other relevant software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with internal teams and external partners.





Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree.
  • Human Resources leadership experience and/or project management experience in HR.
  • Compensation experience and CCP certification is a plus.
  • Experience and proficiency in the PeopleSoft HRMS platform.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.

  • This is a temporary, benefits eligible position with an end date of two years from date of hire.

Working Conditions
  • Office Environment.
  • Hybrid: On-Campus & Remote, with availability to come to campus when necessary.
  • Requires use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.
  • After hours and weekend work is required on an occasional basis.
  • Occasional after hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.

Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasional.






This position will require working both remotely in Texas and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
